Tritective is the three letter mystery word game, from Educational Insights, that gives you the chance to become detectives and mysterious spies. Players can start by choosing the difficulty level of words you'd like to play on the cards: yellow for easy, blue for medium, and red for difficult. Decide who will be the game's first spy and have the spy draw a card from the deck. Whichever difficulty level you chose will be the game's starting spy word.
It's up to the rest of the players, the game's detectives, to solve the case—the spy word. These players are dealt five cards face down and the rest of the deck is placed in the center of the gaming area. Each detective will take a turn choosing one of their cards to place face up on the table. The spy will then share out loud how many letters the spy word and the detectives word have in common. Detectives can then choose whether or not they want to guess what the spy word is. Play continues until one of the detectives guesses the spy word.
While the length of game play will vary depending on how many people are playing, the directions are very straightforward and game play is easy enough to just take out of the package and jump right in.
With 100 spy cards and varying levels of difficulty it offers a lot of repeat play value.
The tin packaging is also small enough to throw in your bag and take with you to play on a road trip or at a friend's house.
Tritective is for two to four players, ages 10 and up.
If a player (detective) chooses not to guess the spy word, he/she must draw another card from the deck. If a player's guess is incorrect, he/she can't draw a new card.
Whoever guesses the spy word gets to be the new spy for the next round.
Although it's for two to four players, gameplay is a lot more exciting when played with more than two players.
