In Theatres: Despicable Me 2, Lone Ranger

As those of us in the States get ready to celebrate our nation’s Independence, Hollywood is serving up two family-friendly movies for the long weekend.

despicable_me_2Despicable Me 2 promises more minion madness as Gru (Steve Carell), the girls and everyone’s favorite little yellow monsters (sorry Bart Simpson, it isn’t you) return for the sequel. I loved the first Despicable Me movie and am really looking forward to seeing this one. I can tell you after visiting Universal Studios in Hollywood a few weeks ago, that the studio is expecting big things from the little minions.

TimeToPlayMag.com gave the movie 7 out of 10 See-it-Again Points. You can read our full review and check out our reviews of the toys for the movie by clicking here.

Rated: PG (for rude humor and mild action)
Run Time: 98 minutes

The_Lone_RangerDisney hopes to dominate the box office this week as The Lone Ranger joins proven winner, Monsters University in theaters. The Lone Ranger, which I think used to be a TV show, could be a hard sale for young families since most people under the age of 50 have never seen the original material. While the outlook for this movie may be murky, we have been seeing some great toys, especially from LEGO, based on the movie. You can see those toys and get our reviews for them by clicking here.

Rated: PG-13 (for sequences of intense action and violence, and some suggestive material)
Run Time: 149 minutes

I’ll have the Box Office Report for you next Monday so we will be able to see how both of these movies perform.

Do you plan to see any movies over the holiday weekend?
