E3 Recap: Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox

Last week the gaming world descended on LA for the annual E3 expo. This is where the video game industry unveils what they have in store for the near future. Its an over-the-top and exciting few days of games, gear and crowds.

Three of the largest booths belong to the three major hardware/software companies – Nintendo, PlayStation (Sony) and Xbox (Microsoft). All three companies have their latest generation consoles on the market now so the focus at the booths was games. Following are a few highlights from each companies booth.

Nintendo
Sales of the Wii U (the successor to the Wii) haven’t been great, but Nintendo has a slew of exclusive games on the horizon that should move more people to purchase the new console. Among those games are Mario Party 10, Yoshi’s Wooly World and Captain Toad:Treasure Tracker. There are also two more games that almost everyone was talking about at the show, they are a new Zelda game that looks stunning and a new Super Smash Bros.

PlayStation
Its been a great year for PlayStation and sales of the PS4. Look for more games that take advantage of the PS4’s impressive capabilities and a new console-like device called PlayStation TV.  PS TV is a small device that allows users to download and stream games, movies and music. Speaking of games, LittleBigPlanet makes its debut on the PS4 this fall with the third game in the popular series starring Sackboy.

Xbox
It looks like Microsoft is shifting its focus a bit for the Xbox One. Last year the drive was to establish the new console as an all-in-one entertainment device. This year the emphasis was on games and the Xbox booth was filled with exclusive games including Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 2, Fable Legends and Dance Central Spotlight.

Stay tuned for my second E3 recap, which will focus on the game publishers. In the meantime, follow me on Twitter, , for more game and entertainment info.
