Box Office: Iron Man Ices the Competition. Great News for Gatsby

It was another stellar weekend for Iron Man 3, which took in $72.5 million in it’s second weekend of domestic release. That’s about $30 million less than The Avengers‘ second weekend haul but is in line with Iron Man 2‘s two-week take. The weekend also delivered some great news for The Great Gatsby with Baz Luhrman’s (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo & Juliet) take on the classic Fitzgerald novel earning $51.1 million in it’s opening weekend.

Pain & Gain dropped down to #3 on the list and Tyler Perry Presents Peeples, debuted in 4th. 42 rounded out the Top 5 but look at who is still in the Top 10…The Croods and Oz The Great and Powerful. Both of these movies opened more than two months ago and continue to perform well with The Croods earning a total of $173.2 million and Oz approaching $230 million.
