Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Review (Nintendo)

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
What It Is

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is the fifth game in the Donkey Kong Country series, and the sequel to the 2010 Wii game, Donkey Kong Country Returns. The game is a high-definition, side-scrolling platform game where Donkey Kong's island has been invaded by Viking-like creatures called the Snomads. Players take on the role of Donkey Kong and play across six different islands to defeat the Snomads.

As in past games, Donkey Kong is joined by Diddy Kong, who rides on his back and gives players a jump boost. This time around, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong are also in the game and have similar jump, yet uniquely designed, jump assists.

Is It Fun?

This is a great looking game with crisp, bright, and colorful graphics. Although it's a side-scrolling game, there is a lot of depth to the levels, and like past Donkey Kong Country games, players can search for hidden items as they work their way through the levels. Getting through the levels is no easy task. They are filled with clever and challenging obstacles that make reaching a level's end and finding all the items as rewarding as it is fun.

Who It’s For

The game is rated E for Everyone and is a must-play for Donkey Kong Country fans of all ages. The game is challenging, and may be too difficult for kids under the age of 8. Even adults will find this one hard to beat.

What To Be Aware Of

While this is primarily a single-player game, a second player can join in and take control of Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky Kong. The game is a Wii U exclusive.
