Rio 2 Flying High Jewel Review (Jakks Pacific)

Rio 2 Flying High Jewel
What It Is

In the movie Rio 2, Blu, Jewel, and their three kids are flying in the Amazon instead of in Rio, and kids can play out the flying action with the Rio 2 Flying High Jewel. This remote-control figure can be used indoors or outdoors, and it comes with a four-foot tether that connects the figure to the remote. Hold the figure upright in one hand and move the lever on the remote to start. The bird's wings will begin to flap. Let go and walk around with Jewel as she flies. You can also connect Jewel to the display peg on the remote for storage and display when playtime is over.

Is It Fun?

While kids will certainly love watching Jewel fly, it may take a few tries for kids to get the hang of controlling the toy. The instructions don't say anything about walking with the toy as it flies, but that's what you have to do. Actually, because the toy flies so quickly, you have to run to keep up with it otherwise Jewel reaches the end of the tether and just falls. It took us several tries before we got Jewel to fly in the air for more than two seconds. Once we did get it to work, it was pretty cool, and Jewel can fly for a fairly long time as long as you're able to keep up with her and she doesn't hit any obstacles.
