Get the Picture! Review (MindWare)

Get the Picture!
What It Is

Get the Picture! is a head-to-head dot-to-dot game. The object of the game is to be the first to guess the picture that you're creating. To play, each player chooses a card at one of the difficulty levels: beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Insert the card and then pass it to your opponent making sure that the clue windows are closed. Players then open the first clue window and start drawing. Clues primarily include a number sequence that you're supposed to follow. When you've completed a clue, take a guesses card and write down what you think the picture might be. If you don't know, draw a line and continue to the next clue. Play continues until the drawings are complete and all the clues are guessed. The player who has written the correct answer scores one point for each line they wrote in the correct answer. Wipe off the card and the screen and start again.

Is It Fun?

This is a decent concept, but we had some problems with the execution. We played several cards at different levels, and we didn't find any one where we could even begin to guess the picture until after about clue four or five. The game works on the concept of closure, that is, being able to interpret a complete picture from just seeing some of the elements. The competitive nature of the game is limited as each player focuses on his or her board, and it doesn't really change from game to game, making repeat play a little less interesting. We also thought the scoring was clumsy.

Still, for kids who like doing dot-to-dot pictures, this is a new way to take a solo activity and share it.

Who It’s For

Get the Picture! is for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The clue board is frustrating to work with because the clue doors slide back and forth, which means it's way too easy to see the answer accidentally. The sequence of clues is less important. The only way around this is to play flat on a table.
