The LEGO Movie Ice Cream Machine Review (LEGO)

The LEGO Movie Ice Cream Machine
What It Is

The LEGO Movie: Ice Cream Machine from LEGO is a 344-piece building set from The LEGO Movie. The set builds the Flying Ice Cream Machine, a Micro Manager robot and three minifigures: Ice Cream Mike, Ice Cream Jo and Cardio Carrie.

The Flying Ice Cream Machine is a bright and colorful vehicle where everything has an ice-cream look to it. Even the two wing-mounted flick missiles look like popsicles. There are two control areas so both Ice Cream Mike and Ice Cream Jo can have their own stations and there's plenty of room in the open area for Cardio Carrie so she is safe from the attacking Micro Manager robot. The robot has moveable claw arms and three flick missiles that fire out of its body.

This set is a "2-in-1" set, which means the pieces can be used to build two different items. One set of instructions will build the Flying Ice Cream Machine but there is also another instruction booklet that builds an Ice Cream Van.

Is It Fun?

Kids who have seen the movie will get a kick out of building and playing with these new characters and vehicles. However, their bright, colorful pieces don't really require kids to have seen the movie.

Who It’s For

This set is recommended for LEGO fans, ages 8 to 14. However, it is most likely to appeal to kids at the younger end of the age spectrum. Given the colors, themes and the characters, these sets are likely to appeal to both boys and girls, whether or not they've seen the movie.

What To Be Aware Of

The directions are excellent and most LEGO builders should be able to complete this set in about 35 minutes. The robot's flick missiles are a little tricky to fire at first so kids might need some practice with them.
