Outfitters Mancala Review (Front Porch Classics)

Outfitters Mancala
What It Is

Mancala is an ancient game of strategy for two players. There are many different versions of Mancala and board sizes, but Outfitters Mancala is a two by six game board, designed for travel. There are two rows of six bowls and then a Mancala or store for each player. You would need 48 stones for a two by six board. Players take turns moving and dropping the stones one at a time into the small bowls around the game board. The object of the game is to capture more stones than your opponent, and the strategy is in choosing which bowl to scoop from. It's a really nice-looking wooden set with pretty stones, and the wooden case doubles as the game board. The board is packaged in a sturdy canvas and mesh drawstring bag, making it easy to bring anywhere.

Is It Fun?

This version of the game does not come with instructions, so it's best for people who already know how to play. Or you can always Google the instructions like we did. While this is very portable, the small stones don't make it ideal for playing on an airplane, train, or on the beach unlike with other travel games.

Who It’s For

Outfitters Mancala is for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The first time we opened this, it sort of sprang open causing the stones to go flying all over. We actually lost four of the stones because of this. However, the solution is to lie the case flat on one side and unfold it slowly.
