Design + Build Friendship Bracelets and Rainbow Mini Purse Review (GoldieBlox)

Design + Build Friendship Bracelets and Rainbow Mini Purse
What It Is

The new GoldieBlox Design + Build sets take accessories to a whole other level. Flexo flexible bricks allow kids to build wearable bracelets and usable mini purses, bringing engineering to fashion.

The Friendship Bracelets kit includes 36 bricks, 113 domes, and 160 stitches. There's a special tool to help you insert stitches and separate bricks. Use the stitches key in the instruction booklet to know which size stitch to use. There are actually three different bracelet designs to make. Or you can rebuild the pieces into colorful cookies, a flower crown, or whatever you can imagine.

The Rainbow Mini Purse kit includes 98 bricks, 365 domes, and 320 stitches. After you finish stitching the bricks together to make a rainbow-patterned purse (in a stripe or diagonal pattern), build a coordinating rainbow bracelet. And then rebuild the pieces into a unicorn figure or a pencil holder.

Is It Fun?

We like the flexibility of the bricks and the functionality of the designs. Kids will have fun customizing their builds, and then exploring all the different ways they can rebuild. These are great STEM toys for girls who enjoy fashion and accessories.

Depending on what kids choose to build, this could be a time-consuming craft, and we sometimes had trouble getting the flexible stitches to stay in their slots.

Who It’s For

These kits are for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The Flexo bricks are compatible with other major brick brands.

The picture instructions are pretty easy to follow, but the instructions do direct you to the GoldieBlox website for video tutorials. Unfortunately, at the time of this review, there were no instructions for all of the alternate builds. There is a general fundamentals video for the Flexo system that is helpful.
