OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Last year was Barbie's 60th anniversary, but 2020 brings another anniversary for toymaker Mattel - its own birthday! Mattel celebrates 75 years by reintroducing the classic 1959 black-and-white swimsuit Barbie doll reproduced with a Silkstone body for the very first time. The doll wears a strapless, vintage-cut one-piece, signature ponytail, and original face sculpt with crimson lips and sleek black eyeliner. Iconic accessories include cat-eye sunglasses and black peep-toe slides. Because this is a collectible doll, a doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity are included. Plus, the doll wears a special "Genuine Barbie by Mattel" wrist tag. And the outside of the packaging features a special 75th anniversary Mattel logo.

Is It Fun?

We love the doll stand for this. There's no plastic stick that either scrunches up the doll's outfit at the waist or awkwardly squeezes between the doll's legs. Instead the doll's feet fit over silver pegs sticking out of the display base. This perfectly poses Barbie and holds the heftier weight of the Silkstone body. This is definitely going to appeal to collectors who will love seeing this classic Barbie look return. It's a great way to celebrate both Barbie and Mattel.

Who It’s For

This doll is intended for adult collectors and is not for children under 14 years of age.

What To Be Aware Of

This is a limited-edition doll with no more than 20,000 worldwide.

If you take this doll out of the box for display, be careful with the wrist tag. It can easily tear off.
