OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Open up a whole new world of adventure with favorite Disney Princesses when you build LEGO's new Disney Princess Storybook Adventures sets. With each set, you actually get to build an opening book and then build out a scene to play inside the book. And when playtime is over, everything stores inside the book, which has a pretend locking feature.

Mulan's Storybook Adventures, model number 43174, is a blue storybook with pink spine. Open up the book to find a garden setting on one side where the characters can drink tea by the plum tree. The other side is a wintry training ground scene where Mulan learns to fight. The 124-piece set includes three micro-doll figures, one of Mulan in her signature dress, one of warrior Mulan, and one of Li Shang. Khan the horse and Cri-Kee inside a cage are also included.

Ariel's Storybook Adventures, model number 43176, is a light blue book with a teal spine. This 105-piece set opens up to reveal Ariel's underwater world on one side, complete with opening clamshell, watery slide, and the coveted stone statue of Prince Eric. The other side creates a beachy above-ground scene with sandy beach and boat. The set includes three micro-doll figures: one of mermaid Ariel, one of human Ariel, and one of Prince Eric. Figures of Sebastian and Flounder complete the set.

Anna and Elsa's Storybook Adventures, model number 43175, is a purple storybook with a blue spine. The 133-piece set opens up to become the castle courtyard on one side and the castle interior on the other. There's a detailed exterior of Arendelle castle with space in front for playing out all sorts of scenes. The inside of the castle has a bedroom and a fold-down piano that also reveals a picture of their parents' boat. Micro-doll figures of Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf are included, along with two "ice magic" accessories for Elsa's hands. Kids also get to build a sleigh with room for one micro-doll.

Belle's Storybook Adventures, model number 43177, comes with 111 pieces for building a yellow storybook with golden spine, and a dual scene of the Beast's castle exterior and interior. Kids can have the characters play outside in front of the castle or discover the castle's mysteries as they enter the gate. There's a fold-down bed for Belle, a "secret" rotating fireplace, a spinning dance floor, and even the enchanted rose. Micro-figures of Belle and the Beast are included, plus a separate hair piece so that the Beast can transform into Prince Adam. Additional figures of Mrs. Potts, Chip, Wardrobe, and Cogsworth are also included.

Each set also includes a sticker sheet so kids can decorate the play scenes and be inspired in their creative storytelling.

Is It Fun?

There are two sides to every story, and that's definitely true in these two-sided construction sets. Disney Princess fans will have fun playing out different scenes from their favorite Disney movies. These sets are easy to build, inspire kids to imagine their own stories, and are totally portable for play on the go. We also like the cute look of the new micro-dolls. Those might be fun for collectors, too.
