OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Add all sorts of new adventures to your LEGO City with the 2020 lineup of LEGO City construction sets.

The Safari Off-Roader set, model number 60267, lets the minifigures get up close and personal with wildlife. Use the 168 pieces to build a zebra-striped all-terrain vehicle with rugged wheels and a removable top for putting the minifigures inside. Two explorer minifigures are included along with a variety of accessories, from a tree trunk costume to fool the animals to binoculars, a camera, and a mug. A poseable lioness figure is also included, plus a parrot figure that can perch from the tree trunk's branch. This set is for ages 5 and up.

Build up a lot of play with the Construction Bulldozer set, model number 60252. It comes with 126 pieces for building a bulldozer that has rubber track wheels and a working scoop. Attach the cargo car to haul around the construction bricks, orange cones, construction signs, tools, and more. Kids also get to build a cement mixer that really spins and a crane with wrecking ball. Two construction worker minifigures are also included. This set is designed for ages 4 and up.

It's LEGO to the rescue with the Police Helicopter Chase set, model number 60243. Capture the bad guys by building a helicopter with spinning rotors and a working magnet chain that captures the magnetic diamond truck, which, of course, is filled with diamonds and gems. There is space in the helicopter for a minifigure to pilot it, and two police officer minifigures and two criminal minifigures are included. According to the box, one of the police officers is named Sam Grizzled and one of the bad guys is named Snake Rattler. Kids also get to build a police ATV and a motorcycle. This 212-piece set is for ages 5 and up.

And the fire department heads to the rescue in the 93-piece Fire Helicopter Response set, model number 60248. Kids build a helicopter that has a ripcord flying feature. While the ripcord does make the rotor spin, it doesn't really make the helicopter fly off the launcher. There's also a fire department ATV and the scene of the blaze: oil cans and a pipe. Fire pieces, fire extinguishers, and an axe all help the two minifigures combat the fire. This is for ages 5 and up.

Is It Fun?

All of these sets have a lot of cool features that bring a construction scene, a safari, or a rescue scene to life. There are lots of storytelling possibilities with each one. Any one of these would make a nice addition to a LEGO City collection.

Who It’s For

The new LEGO City sets vary in age range. Some are for ages 4 and up, while others are for 5 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

These sets were all relatively easy to build, taking us between 25 and 35 minutes for each one.

The only disappointing set was Fire Helicopter Response because the ripcord feature didn't work well.
