OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Thomas and his friends are ready to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Thomas the Tank Engine. The line features popular characters of Thomas, Percy, James, and Nia. Each engine has a shiny finish and a coordinating shiny cargo car. The cargo car can be removed from the engine. The engines are also motorized when you add batteries, and they'll work with Thomas & Friends TrackMaster tracks, which are sold separately. The packaging of each engine has a shiny gold "75" logo on the front.

Is It Fun?

A 75th anniversary is a pretty big deal, and these shiny new engines are a great way to celebrate. The engines look really nice in the packaging with the gold logo on the front, and we think this might appeal to older Thomas collectors. But these engines are made to be played with, and once you get them out of the package, you'll discover that they're just lightweight plastic, despite what the shiny finish might have you believe. Our Thomas engine actually had some imperfections on the finish that were a little disappointing. But kids who just want to send the engines zooming around their TrackMaster track probably won't mind a scuff or a smudge.

Who It’s For

The Thomas & Friends Celebration engines are for ages 3 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

You'll need two AAA batteries to power the motorized engines.
