OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The secret ingredient is... LEGO bricks! Cook up some fun with the LEGO Friends Baking Competition construction set, model number 41393. Lillie is your host, and the trophy and monetary prize will either go to David or Stephanie. Who can bake up the tastiest creation? It all depends on what you build.

With the set's 361 pieces, kids build the scene of a TV cake-off, complete with lights and a camera. In the middle is the host's table, complete with food accessories on the shelves and a spinning ingredients wheel on the top. There's also a clock so contestants know how much time they have left to bake.

Two cooking stations are set up on either side of the middle platform, and these can be removed and played with separately or even attached to create a longer cooking station. Accessories at the banana yellow station include a pretend blender with strawberry pieces inside, a sink, a stovetop, a cutting board, and cooking utensils. The green apple cooking station also has a sink plus a bowl with cracked egg inside, a cutting board, and cooking utensils. Use the fire extinguisher to put out the flame on the stovetop. Display each contestant's cake on the spinning cake stands.

Three mini-dolls of Stephanie, David, and Lillie are included.

Is It Fun?

Kids will have a blast building this food-themed set and playing out a baking competition, a regular cooking show, or whatever story they want to tell. There are a lot of fun details, like the fire extinguisher and the ingredients wheel, which brings to life elements from real cooking shows and prompts imaginative storytelling.
