Meltdown Review (PlayMonster)

What It Is

There's been an explosion of toxic goop. Can you cool it off or will there be a Meltdown? Meltdown is a new game of skill where players place green pretend ice cubes on top of a balancing platform. Underneath the platform is squishy putty Goop that's going to shift and move as it melts, and that's going to make it hard for the cubes to balance.

Once you've got the game set up with the toxic barrel tower, the Goop, and the platform on top, players get an equal number of cubes and then take turns rolling the die to see how many cubes to add to the platform: one, two, or three. If any cubes fall off during your turn, they become yours. The first player to get all his cubes on the platform - and stay - wins. And, according to the instructions, "stay" means for 15 seconds.

Is It Fun?

It's easy to learn how to play, and it's fun to watch the platform move as the putty Goop melts. We really like the toxic green look of the game elements, and that just adds to the fun. If you want more of a challenge (or to make the game easier), just adjust the shape you roll the Goop into before placing the platform on top. Experiment with different shapes, and engage in fun tactile play as you set up the game.

Who It’s For

Meltdown is for two or more players ages 7 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The game includes a tower, 32 cubes, Goop, a balancing platform, a die, and rules in English and Spanish. All of the pieces store inside the tower unit when playtime is over.
