OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Learning fun will never be extinct thanks to VTech's Mix & Match-a-Saurus. This interactive learning dinosaur roars and dances, with behavior, emotions, and dance styles that can be personalized thanks to colorful tiles that get placed on the dinosaur's back. There are three emotion tiles (happy, angry, sleepy), three music tiles (hip hop, ballet, marching), and three character tiles (dinosaur, robot, monster). There are 27 different combinations of music, emotions, and characters that kids can create, such as happy hip-hop dino or angry marching robot. Red tiles go in the red circle on the dinosaur's back, yellow tiles go in the yellow triangle, and blue tiles go in the blue square.

There are two play modes. In Dino Dances mode, customize the dinosaur by placing tiles on his back. When his back is filled, he'll sing and dance according to which tiles were inserted. In Talk with Dino mode, inserting the tiles activates different dino phrases.

If there are no dino tiles inserted on the dinosaur's back, kids can press the light-up buttons to learn about colors and shapes. If there are dino tiles, pressing a button activates phrases about the corresponding tile.

Pressing the Dino-Mite button in either mode makes the dinosaur dance in different styles with different songs.

When playtime is over, store all of the dino tiles in the big dino egg.

Is It Fun?

This is a cute and engaging way to introduce early learning concepts and get kids up and active. Kids will like dancing around with the Mix & Match-a-Saurus and seeing how his responses change as they change up the dino tiles in his back. There's a lot of silliness in the play as kids practice and learn about colors, shapes, and more.
