Pria 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat Review (Maxi-Cosi)

Pria 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
What It Is

If you're looking for a car seat that will be the only car seat you need, then look at the Pria 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat. It's safe to use with newborns all the way up to 10-year-olds. And in each stage, babies and kids will be comfortable thanks to soft, premium fabrics and padding that are self-wicking, easy to remove, machine washable, and dryer safe. The Pria 3-in-1 is also equipped with GCell Side Impact Protection to absorb crash energy and protect your child's head.

For the youngest babies, removable infant pillows provide extra support and comfort. Remove them once baby has outgrown them. And as baby continues to grow, you'll need to adjust the height of the headrest and shoulder harness, which is easy to do by squeezing the button and moving the headrest up or down. There are five headrest heights.

You can also adjust the buckle through one of three slots, depending on what position the car seat is in and how big your child is. What can also be adjusted depending on car seat position and size of the child is the car seat's recline. There are three recline positions adjusted by pulling out on the recline handle and either pushing or pulling the top of the child restraint backward or forward. In rear-facing mode, there is a level line printed on the car seat to help you determine the proper recline position when in your car. The line should be level to the ground.

You can install the car seat rear-facing or forward-facing using the LATCH connectors or your vehicle seat belt. There's no built-in AutoLock feature if you're using the seat belt, so you'll need to ensure your vehicle has the proper seat belt retractor and latch plates to lock the seat belt into place. When you switch to forward-facing mode, the car seat has a tether strap that hooks onto your car's tether anchor.

For booster seat mode, remove the harness and store it in the slots behind the headrest pad, then install the seat using your vehicle's seat belt.

When taking baby out of the car seat, it's really convenient that there are in and out harness holders to keep the straps out of the way.

The car seat also features two removable cup holders that are top-rack dishwasher safe.

The Pria 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat comes in a variety of color schemes: Blackened Pearl, Silver Charm, Harbor Side, Arctic Mist, and Peach Amber.

Why Is It Useful?

The big thing with this car seat is that it accommodates babies and older children. It could literally be the only car seat you need. Some other great features are that it's easy to adjust and clean. There were a few things that could have been better (see What to Be Aware of below), but for the price and the amount of use you'll get from it, this is a good car seat.

Who It’s For

In rear-facing, this can be used with babies from 4 to 40 pounds and 19 to 40 inches. Children under the age of 1 should always be rear-facing, and check your local state laws for when a child can be switched to forward-facing. This car seat accommodates forward-facing children from 22 to 65 pounds and 29 to 49 inches. The forward-facing booster seat mode is for children between 40 and 100 pounds and 43 to 52 inches.

What To Be Aware Of

We wish that the LATCH connectors had their own separate straps for tightening as opposed to being joined to one strap that runs underneath the seat pad. But the type of LATCH connectors used are really easy to attach (or detach) to the LATCH bars in your car.

It was easy to figure out how to change the buckle position, but a little tricky to push the buckle's metal retainer up through the slot in the shell.

A Quick Start Installation Guide gives you the information you need to install the car seat, but for more specific information on the parts of the car seat and how to use or adjust them, refer to the full instruction manual.
