Smart Sizzlin' BBQ Grill Review (LeapFrog)

Smart Sizzlin' BBQ Grill
What It Is

Grill up some fun with the Smart Sizzlin' BBQ Grill. Through pretend food play, preschoolers are introduced to core learning skills, such as counting and colors. Along with the pretend grill, the playset also includes pretend food and grilling tools: a red hot dog, a blue fish, four orange shrimp, a brown steak, a purple eggplant, two green peppers, three white mushrooms, a yellow corn, one bun, a sauce bottle, a pair of tongs, a spatula, two plates, and two forks. There's space for storing everything in the bottom of the grill.

To play, select a play mode. There's Learn mode, Play mode, and Music mode. In any of these modes, the grill will recognize each food piece when you attach it to the skewer. Learn mode is all about food names, colors, and numbers. Play mode will play fun rhymes and engage kids in pretend play. And in Music mode, you can turn the 1-10 temperature dial to choose a song to play.

Pressing the grill button will play flame and sizzling sounds as the grill lights up. The star activity button prompts kids on what to cook next or plays phrases, songs, and rhymes. And the clicking dial has a satisfying click as kids practice their fine motor skills to turn it. For more auditory play, the sauce bottle rattles when shaken.

Is It Fun?

Just the pretend play with this is a lot of fun for little kids who want to do everything like mom and dad. But then you add in the educational component with the phrases, songs, and more, and you've got kids learning as they play. The sound effects and lights also enhance the imaginative play.
