Monopoly Voice Banking Review (Hasbro)

Monopoly Voice Banking
What It Is

Nobody has to be the banker when you play Monopoly because in Monopoly Voice Banking, there's no cash! This new way to play the classic board game is the third cashless Monopoly game but the first to be cashless and voice-activated. There's a large plastic top hat in the middle of the game board that serves as electronic bank and banker. When you press the button on the top hat and give a voice command, Mr. Monopoly will talk to you. Each player gets a list of voice commands to reference while playing the game, and these commands will activate electronic transactions to buy a property, pay rent, pick up a Chance card, get out of jail, and check your balance, to name a few.

The gameplay is pretty much the same, with the goal of being the player with the most money and highest property value. And you make money and own property by traveling around the game board to buy and sell. You also still collect $200 for passing GO and you might get sent to jail.

The differences are that there are Trade spaces now, and if you land on one, you can pay to trade any one of your undeveloped properties for your choice of another player's undeveloped property. You can also auction off a property, hosted by Mr. Monopoly, if you don't want to buy a property. There's also a Get Out of Jail Free card that is the only physical Chance or Community Chest card in the game. All the rest are managed by Mr. Monopoly via the banking unit.

You won't see traditional Railroad spaces on the game board either. Instead, there are Train Ride spaces that send you to a random property space, chosen by Mr. Monopoly, when you land on one. And the tokens are different, too. There are only four in this game: T-Rex, racecar, cat, and Scottie dog.

Is It Fun?

Don't be wary of this new way to play Monopoly. Yes, there are new rules for players to learn, and it might take a few rounds to get the hang of using the voice commands, but this is a pretty cool new way to play Monopoly for those who want a faster game and who like banking in Monopoly the way they bank at home - cashless and with technology. Not having cash in the game also prevents players from cheating. (But if you still want to cheat at Monopoly, try Monopoly Cheaters Edition.)
