OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Merge old-school sound equipment with today's sound-playing technology when you collect Boom Boxes. These are small wireless Bluetooth speakers that look like boomboxes from the 1980s and 1990s (you know, those things that played music via cassette tape). Sync one up to your Bluetooth-enabled device and start playing music through the speaker. As music plays, the equalizer lights on the speaker will flash to the beat. The handle even turns into a kickstand, although the speaker does stand up on its own without that. Attach the included carry loop to make it even easier to bring the music with you wherever you go.

These have a range of up to 30 feet, and thanks to built-in rechargeable batteries, will play up to 120 minutes of continuous music. A micro USB charging cable is included.

Is It Fun?

We had no trouble connecting this to a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. And once the music started, we were impressed with the sound quality from such a small speaker. These aren't going to power a big party, but they're great for listening to music while studying at your desk and adding ambience to small gatherings.

Who It’s For

The Boom Boxes are not age-graded, but they have a nostalgic look that will appeal to today's adults who remember listening to music through boomboxes as kids. With different styles to choose from, these might also be fun to collect for music-loving kids ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

These run on a rechargeable battery. A micro USB cable is included.
