Blokus Puzzle Review (Mattel)

Blokus Puzzle
What It Is

The Blokus strategy game now has a compact look with Blokus Puzzle, perfect for puzzling on the go. There are 48 brainteasers in three puzzle types: Connect the Blocks, Cover the Stars, and Avoid the Xs. You choose which puzzle type you want, pick a puzzle card to slide into the game board, grab the specified pieces, and use them to solve the puzzle. No matter what type of puzzle you're doing, there's just one rule: all your pieces must touch but only at the corners. The answers can be found on the back of each challenge card.

More specifically, with Connect the Blocks puzzles, you must connect all the specified pieces to the starting pieces printed on the card. With Cover the Stars, you use all the specified pieces to build out from the starting piece and cover all the printed stars. And when you play an Avoid the Xs puzzle, you use the specified pieces to build out from the starting piece without covering any of the Xs on the card.

The game pieces snap onto the game grid, which makes the game travel friendly, although not all of the puzzle cards can fit in the storage slot on the back of the game grid.

Is It Fun?

This is definitely challenging, but if you're a fan of puzzle games, as well as the original Blokus, you'll like the strategic challenge of fitting the shaped pieces where they need to go. If you're looking to improve your Blokus skills for playing in the competitive version, then this one-player game will certainly help you out. But this is also fun for those just looking for a travel-ready puzzle game.

Who It’s For

Blokus Puzzle is for one player ages 7 and up.

What To Be Aware Of
