OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The new Disney Mary Poppins Returns Mary Poppins Arrives and Jack the Lamplighter Barbie Signature dolls are part of the Barbie Black Label collection, which highlights fan-favorite characters from film and television. Disney's Mary Poppins Returns brings back one of the most memorable Disney characters of all time only with a new storyline surrounding the Banks children, now grown-ups who have lost the magic that nanny once taught them.

These dolls are inspired by two of the story's main characters Mary Poppins (played by Emily Blunt) and Jack the Lamplighter (played by Lin-Manuel Miranda).

The Barbie Mary Poppins doll is featured in her iconic arrival outfit, how she appears when she first flies onto screens: blue striped dress, red polka-dot scarf, and hat with a bird accent. Mary's signature umbrella is missing. In the trailer, she's shown flying in on a kite, rather than her umbrella, so perhaps it isn't as big a component in the new movie. The doll does, however, come with nanny's other key item, her carpetbag purse. The bag features an updated design, and is likely filled with new surprises, as well.

Jack the Lamplighter is assumed to be a character much like Dick Van Dyke's Bert the Chimney Sweeper in the original film. The Jack doll is also inspired by how the character appears on screen: he wears a grey tweed-like jacket, buttoned red vest, brown pinstripe pants, brown shoes, accessories with a grey cap and black scarf. He also comes with a lamp-lighting stick.

Turning to the doll's facial sculpts, there's a lot of features that capture the new film's leads pretty accurately, however the Emily Blunt's sculpt seems far more accurate than Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Is It Fun?

Disney's Mary Poppins was a movie that delighted audiences with its mix of live-action and classic animation that brought magic to life on screen. Mary Poppins Returns is already a highly anticipated movie, which makes these dolls ideally suited for collectors and young children alike. Kept in package both dolls are display-worthy in their window-box packaging. Out of package though kids can really act out their favorite movie moments and tap into the articulated features of each doll.
