Word Slam Family is a word-based card game similar to the original World Slam game but with easier more family friendly content. It's a fast-paced word game where two teams compete to see which team can guess the same word first. Each team has a storyteller and both receive an identical set of 105 story word cards - blue or orange, each with a single word on it: a noun, verb, adjective, or preposition. Then the storytellers choose an answer from the deck of answer cards. The story word cards are the only thing the storyteller can use to get their teammates to guess the correct answer. Simultaneously, the storytellers show their own teammates story word cards that describe the answer. No talking or acting is allowed- only the showing of cards. For example, if the answer is Cookie Monster the storyteller may choose cards like fictitious, blue, soft and funny. The team that guesses it first, wins that round. Word Slam Family includes 100 answer cards, each with six words for a total of 600 answers in four difficulty levels.
This is a fast paced game that can be fun but can also be very challenging. Most of the answer words are familiar, and family-friendly but that doesn't mean they are easy to guess.
Word Slam Family is a word-based card game for 3 or more players ages 10 and up.
There are not any card holders so players should use the two box halves to create a screen to keep cards away from the other team's view. There also is not a timer like in the original game. Instead, it is recommended that players use the timer on their phones. While this make the game more compact and travel-friendly, some families may not like having to include technology in their family game nights, as it is usually a time to put screens away.
