Harry Potter Dolls Review (Mattel)

Harry Potter Dolls
What It Is

You don't need to know magic to make Harry Potter dolls appear. Mattel's new lineup of Harry Potter dolls features all your favorite characters in their signature outfits and with personalized wands. And they're all based on the likeness of the actors who played them. There's Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny Weasley, Professor McGonagall, and Albus Dumbledore. Each is sold separately.

The kid characters are all based on the look of the actors from the early movies. Harry and Ron are both wearing their school uniforms of grey sweater, Gryffindor tie, black slacks, and black robe. Harry's hair is parted so that you can see his lightning bolt scar. Hermione and Ginny wear grey sweaters with black skirts, grey knee-high socks, and black robes.

Minerva McGonagall wears her signature green robes, which are very soft, and a pointy black hat with feather accessory. And Dumbledore's robes are maroon, purple, and gold with a matching hat. His long beard is plastic, but the rest of his long white hair is rooted. This doll is based on the likeness of Richard Harris, the first Dumbledore actor.

Is It Fun?

These dolls could almost be considered collectibles for older Harry Potter fans who want a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the books. But even younger fans who are just now immersing themselves in the book and movie series will enjoy playing out favorite scenes with these dolls.

In terms of the dolls' likenesses to the actors, we think the best dolls are Minerva McGonagall (played by Dame Maggie Smith) and Ron Weasley (played by Rupert Grint). The Harry doll looks more like the illustrated version from the original book covers more than it looks like Daniel Radcliffe.
