OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Experience the classic story The Nutcracker in a whole new way with the new Disney movie The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and a line-up of Barbie dolls based on the movie's characters. Clara's Light-Up Dress, Ballerina of the Realms, and Sugar Plum Fairy are three of the collectible dolls in gorgeous, glittery outfits and with facial sculpts that mimic the look of the actresses who play the characters.

The main character is Clara, and fans can bring her home with the Clara's Light-Up Dress doll. The doll wears a sparkling lilac and pink gown with silver and gold accents. Press the key button on her pendant to make the dress light up. In her long brown hair, the doll wears a tiara, and she also holds an ornate box designed to look like the one from the movie. The doll's body type is Skipper, but the doll's face resembles that of Mackenzie Foy, the actress who plays Clara in the movie.

The Ballerina of the Realms doll is very poseable so that kids can create all sorts of ballerina moves with the doll. The doll is also sculpted to the likeness of Misty Copeland, who plays the character in the movie. Wearing a white dress with sheer overlay and a silvery design on the front, the doll stands en pointe in pink ballet shoes.

The Sugar Plum Fairy is designed to look like Keira Knightley, who plays the character in the movie. The doll wears a purple gown with scalloped layers, a bodice with silvery detail, and a large collar. Her multi-colored hair is swept up on top of her head, and the doll also has fairy wings to wear.

All of the dolls include doll stands and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Is It Fun?

These are great collectible Barbie dolls that fans of the new movie or just the classic story of The Nutcracker will enjoy collecting and keeping out on display. Each of the dolls does have poseability, which will be fun for kids who want to play out some of the movie's scenes, but keep in mind, these are collector's dolls, so some fans might not even want to remove them from the box.

Who It’s For

Clara's Light-Up Dress and the Ballerina of the Realms dolls are part of the Black Label collection, making them collectible dolls to help start a Barbie collection for younger fans. However, the Sugar Plum Fairy doll is part of the Gold Label, meaning it has a limited quantity and is for adult collectors.

What To Be Aware Of

The Clara's Light-Up Dress doll includes three button cell batteries for the in-store try-me features. It's recommended that you replace them before you play for best results.

These dolls are considered collectibles, so some Barbie collectors may not take the dolls out of the box.

Each doll is sold separately. Clara's Light-Up Dress retails for $50, the Ballerina of the Realms doll is $30.99, and the Sugar Plum Fairy is $100. There are only 20,000 Sugar Plum Fairy dolls.
