OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Bring letter writing fun with you wherever you go with the Go-with-Me ABC Backpack. It's shaped like a backpack and can be worn like one, too, but this plastic toy opens up to reveal 26 plastic letters, a drawing surface, an LCD screen, and a Mr. Pencil-shaped writing tool.

Kids can push down on one of the letters in their letter spots to hear the name of the letter, the sound the letter makes, and an animal that starts with that letter. Animations also appear on the LCD screen. (Taking the puzzle pieces out and placing them back in their spots will also activate the same responses in the Letter Zoo activity.)

Or press one of the activity buttons to play different games. (It's helpful to remove all of the letters first.) Meet the Letters sends kids on a quest to find the right letter and place it back in its letter spot. In Mystery Word, kids find the correct letters to complete the mystery word. With Uppercase Letters and Lowercase Letters, kids follow the animations on the screen to practice writing upper- and lowercase letters. Slide the eraser to clear the screen. Letter Animals shows kids how to draw a letter and then turn it into an animal. And the Music activity plays different letter songs.

Is It Fun?

Little kids will like wearing their backpack to the doctor's office or a restaurant to practice their phonics and letter writing while they wait. With so many different activities plus the fun animations, music, and opportunity to get creative, this will keep kids engaged in the learning fun whether they are playing at home or on the go.

Who It’s For

The Go-with-Me ABC Backpack is a nice on-the-go writing tool for kids ages 3 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

This comes with two AA batteries for the in-store try-me features, so you might want to replace them before you play for best results.

The toy has two levels of volume.

We thought it was a little difficult to remove the letters, so younger kids might need some help from an adult.
