OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The Musical Rainbow Tea Party from LeapFrog gives an update to some of the past LeapFrog tea party playsets, expanding both the magical interactive features a bit more along with the learning.

The interactivity is built into the included tea pot, which when turned on, springs to life with songs, lights, and sounds. There are two modes for play, which you can alternate between using the switch on the side. There's Music Mode and Time for Tea Mode.

In Music Mode, the teapot will sing and the colors will change to indicate the type of tea to serve, such as strawberry tea, blueberry tea, lemon tea, etc. Press the heart button at any point to listen to a song and pretend to brew another cup of tea. In this mode, you can also lift the lid on the teapot at any point to change the teapot's color/aka the type of tea you're brewing. You'll also notice there's a little peek-a-boo mirror hidden in the top as well for adding exploration.

In Time for Tea Mode, encourage basic counting as well as color recognition and association. Colors and vocabulary are particularly reinforced through play thanks to the association kids can make between both the tea colors/names and the colors of the cake to match. In Time for Tea mode, the teapot highlights beginner counting through the numbers on the pieces of cake. It also encourages early sharing and patience when asking kids to help pour the tea, serve another cup, as well as wait for another cup to brew.

The playset comes with a tea pot, five pieces of cake in different colors with different numbers, two cups and an adorable stand for play and storage.

Is It Fun?

This playset is a good learning toy for encouraging beginner learning through play. We especially like how it's helping build not only skills such as counting, colors, etc. but also critical social skills. For parents, this is an especially fun one for co-play. Because the toy doesn't necessarily recognize when the correct color cake piece is selected, it is best for parents to aid and guide your child as they play.

Who It’s For

The Musical Rainbow Tea Party set is from LeapFrog and it's for ages 1 and up. It is a fun option for parents looking to infuse some critical learning early on through play. Plus, it also taps into the classic tea party setting for kids.

What To Be Aware Of

Two AA batteries are required, and they are included for try-me purposes. We suggest swapping them out before play though for the optimal play experience.
