The Sorting Surprise Turtle from LeapFrog takes a classic toy--- a shape sorter---and combines it with a fun, friendly turtle character to make building such basic early learning skills as colors, shapes, and numbers fun. The turtle's shell becomes the shape sorter, divided into five basic primary and secondary colors (red, yellow, orange, blue, and purple). Each section features a corresponding shape cut out and block: heart (red), star (yellow), square (orange), circle (blue), and triangle (purple). Simply place the blocks into each of the inserts.
Once the blocks are inside, kids or parents can press down on the butterfly-shaped button on top to make the turtles shell spin and throw the blocks out, encouraging lots of pick up and repeat play, and giggles. As the blocks go flying, the toy will also play music and educational rhymes.
Press the button on its head to cycle through three bonus learning songs.
As typical in LeapFrog toys, this toy also features sound level adjustments, which parents will also appreciate.
Overall, we like the twist this toy puts on a classic toy box staple, offering kids a fun playful way to build critical early development skills. For toddlers, this type of basic play is great for developing an understanding of cause and effect as well as hand-eye coordination. Of course, the real fun and "wow" factor for kids comes through after all the blocks have been sorted and they can press the big button on top to send the blocks flying.
The Sorting Surprise Turtle is for ages 9 months and up from LeapFrog. Parents will like how it aids in early learning development in a way that's engaging and encourages repeat play. Kids will like it because of the 'wow' moment every time they play. See the Is It Fun section above for more information on how we think this toy can aid skill development.
Parents can cheer because, as typical in LeapFrog toys, this toy features two sound level adjustments so you can lower the volume.
Two AA batteries are required and they are included for try-me purposes. You'll need a screw driver to replace the try-me batteries with new ones.
