EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The Fisher-Price Think & Learn Rocktopus is a preschool toy featuring a cute headphone wearing octopus, and sounds from different musical instruments, and musical styles including jazz funk, pop, world, rock, and classical. There are also age appropriate games, and activities that teach math concepts. There are 15 instruments that kids can choose from to mix and match during gameplay, and three ways to play. In Math Mode, Rocktopus introduces basic addition, subtraction and patterns through activities like taking away musical instruments to see how many are left. In Music Mode, kids can create musical medleys by choosing which instruments are played and then changing the tempo. The red button slows down the music, and the green button speeds it up. Phrases and sounds can be added to the songs by pressing the blue button. You'll also hear fun facts between songs. Finally, in Game Mode, place an instrument in each tentacle and follow Rocktopus' instructions to keep the color of the lights the same. It feels a bit like Whack-a-mole with a musical component. There are 5 levels to work through so game play progresses the more kids play. Four AA batteries are included, and there are two volume settings to choose from. There's also a free Rocktopus app to create music videos, which is not necessary for game play but could be a fun addition.
