OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

If you're looking for surprising new ways to hatch gameplay with your favorite brands, then check out the L.O.L. Surprise! Ruckus Card Game and the Hatchimals Colleggtibles Hatchtastic Jumbo Card Game. Each game is sold separately and can be played with two to four players.

The L.O.L. Surprise! game is a fast-paced matching game where all players play at the same time. You start with seven cards in your hand and lay down all sets of two or more identical cards in front of you, facing up. Once all players have done that, then everybody matches cards from their hands on the sets of other players, taking that set when they do and placing it in front of them. There are no turns, so it gets a little crazy. If there's a break in the play, the dealer deals each player another card. When there are no cards left to be dealt and a player has played her last card, she shouts "Ruckus!" to stop the game. You score one point for each card in your sets and you lose one point for each card still in your hand. If you were the player who ended the round, you score five bonus points. The first player to 77 points wins.

In the Hatchimals game, you're trying to collect the most egg tokens. To do this, roll the die. Then all players draw cards from their deck and continue drawing until one player's cards match the egg color and number on the die. That player grabs the Hatchimal figure to win all of the tokens in the center of the table. But if another player is faster at grabbing the figure, then no player wins any tokens. Either way, reset the round by adding another token to the center. When all the tokens have been taken, the game ends, and the player with the most tokens wins.

Is It Fun?

Both of these games will be fun for kids who are L.O.L. or Hatchimals fans. The gameplay is fairly easy to pick up, and because the games are packaged in small boxes, you could easily bring them with you for play on the go. Kids will also like that each game comes with exclusive pieces that they can add to their actual toys.
