The Barbie Fashionistas line from Mattel has added diversity with 40 dolls, 11 skin tones, and 28 hairstyles. Body types include tall, curvy, petite, and original. There's also more variety in terms of style in the New Crew. Mattel is touting these looks as on trend. For example, Pineapple Pop Barbie is wearing a dress with a classic gray tank top with a nice cut, and a tropical print, pencil skirt. She has 70's style curly hair, and cool sunglasses. Cheerful Check Barbie has a petite frame, and is dressed in a yellow and black checked, short sleeved dress with a collar, red strappy heels, and a bold silver necklace. Mattel did a good job representing different ethnicities, and there are a variety of face sculpts, eye, and hair colors as well. The range offers kids more inspiration, and more ways to spark their imaginations for storytelling. Each doll is sold separately, and there are new styles of Ken Fashionistas available as well.
The Fashionistas' motto is that beauty comes in many forms. This line has dolls for everyone, and modeled after different ethnicities and body types. With 40 new dolls to choose from, 11 skin tones, 28 hairstyles, and three body types, there is a lot of diversity. Mattel is touting the dolls' fashions as on trend though we are not very impressed with the fashions, and felt some were dated. Nevertheless, there are a lot of styles to choose from, and additional fashions are sold separately. Some a broad range offers kids more ways to spark their imaginations for storytelling. The dolls would be fun for imaginative role play. They also may appeal to collectors who want to put the dolls on display.
Recommended for ages 3 years old and up, the line is fun for display, or to use as part of imaginative play. It will appeal to both kids, and collectors.
The Barbie Fashionistas line was first introduced in 2016. This latest release has added diversity with 40 new dolls, 11 skin tones, and 28 hairstyles. Each doll is sold separately, and there are new styles of Ken Fashionistas available as well.
