Tic Tac Two Review (Marbles Brain Workshop)

Tic Tac Two
What It Is

Tic Tac Two, from Marbles Brain Workshop, is a two-player game for ages 8+. The game comes with a game board, a grid, a canvas bag, and 8 playing pieces: 4 yellow 'x's, and 4 orange 'o's. Like many of Marbles Brain Workshop games, Tic Tac Two is a well-crafted wooden game that won't look too bad if it remains on your coffee table, between game plays. The basic gameplay is similar to the classic tic tac toe: 2 players take turns and try to get three-in-a-row. But, here's the rub - after 2 rounds, players can move the grid around the game board. So, what might seem like a clear road to victory for one player, is an opportunity for the other, to mix things up. Players can also relocate one of their playing pieces on each turn. There are 3 versions of game play, all with different levels of difficulty. In the easiest version, game pieces and the grid can be moved anywhere on the board. The most difficult game limits movement and placement of pieces and the grid. My favorite version is the medium level where players can place pieces anywhere, but the grid can only move one space in any direction. Players should stay away from continuous, repetitive, back-and-forth movement of the grid. Not only is this boring, but it's illegal, according to the rules. Tic Tac Two is a great new strategic twist on the classic. A World War II soldier created Tic Tac Two - so while war might be hell, this game is a hell-uva lotta fun!
