Kingdomino Review (Blue Orange Games)

What It Is

Kingdomino, from Blue Orange, comes with 4 Starting Tiles, 4 3-D Castles, 48 Dominoes and 8 Wooden Kings in 4 colors.  The game is recommended for 2-4 players, ages 8+.  To be clear, Kingdomino is not a traditional domino game. Yes, there are domino tiles whose ends must match before connection - but instead of pips, these dominoes feature different terrains and detailed, entertaining artwork. The object of Kingdomino is to build your kingdom in a 5 x 5 grid by connecting dominoes with matching terrains. Terrains with crowns earn you more points, and the player with the most points wins. Players start by choosing a king, castle, and starting tile. Shuffle the dominoes and place down as many as there are kings. One side of the domino has one of six terrains: wheat fields, lakes, mountains, villages, forests and gardens. The other side is numbered and dominoes should be placed in ascending order. With each round you will place one domino into your grid. The starting tile is wild but all other dominoes must match at least one terrain. After placing that domino, choose your domino for the next round by placing your king on top of it. The game continues until all dominoes have been placed. and then it's time to count your points. One point for every domino within a group of matching terrains, multiplied by the amount of crowns within that same terrain.  Kingdomino is fairly easy to learn, and simple to play - but there is a still plenty of strategy packed into the quick games. I recommend it for experienced gamers and those just getting into strategy games.
