OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Build your own seafaring adventures with the LEGO Technic Ocean Explorer construction set, model number 42064. This comes with 1,327 pieces for building a dark blue, red, and white ship that has a large captain's bridge with radar and funnel detailing, plus a helicopter landing pad, a crane that you control using two knobs on the captain's bridge, and an opening deck hatch for access to the ship's hull. You can also steer the ship's rear fenders and wheels by turning the large dial.

You also get to build a submarine that has moving arms and a spinning propeller, plus a helicopter with spinning rotors.

And the whole set can be rebuilt into a Push Boat and Barge using instructions found online at LEGO.com/technic.

The set also includes a uniquely decorated 40th anniversary LEGO Technic brick that sits on display in the back of the ship.

Is It Fun?

This offers a lot of nice detail for LEGO fans young and old. Kids will enjoy playing out a variety of imaginative ocean rescue and exploration stories plus the versatility of being able to build the Ocean Explorer into something else if they want. Older builders will like the challenge of building something so detailed to keep out on display as part of their LEGO collections.

Who It’s For

LEGO Technic Ocean Explorer is for ages 10 and up. Kids and adults who like building with LEGO and who are looking for more detailed models will really like the realistic details and moving parts on this LEGO ship.

What To Be Aware Of

It may have taken us four hours to build this set, but that's just because there are a lot of pieces. The instructions were easy to follow.

This model boat does not float.

The building instructions for the Push Boat and Barge model are available online at LEGO.com/Technic.
