Silkscreen Studio Review (Lakeshore)

Silkscreen Studio
What It Is

Create your own clothing and accessory graphics with the Silkscreen Studio. This kit comes with reusable tools for creating a variety of different designs, including 10 stencils, a wooden silkscreen frame, four fabric paints, a wooden squeegee, a plastic fabric protector, and instructions. You also get a canvas bag so you can get started decorating something right out of the box.

Choose the stencil design you want to work with. Designs range from cats and owls to mermaids and dinosaurs. With the stencil in the frame, place the frame on top of your fabric. Then choose your paint color. You can do your design in only one color or try a multi-color approach. After you squeeze your paint at the top of the stencil, you use the squeegee to spread the paint down over the stencil, which transfers the paint to the fabric. Remove the frame and let your paint dry for at least 24 hours. Then heat-set it in a dryer for 30 minutes.

Wash all of your supplies, and then create again on a different piece of fabric.

Is It Fun?

This is a creative kit that turns kids into fashion designers. They'll have fun designing their own bags, T-shirts, pillowcases, or whatever else they want to decorate. Because all of the tools are reusable, kids can design lots of unique clothing and accessories, and have lots of fun doing it.

Who It’s For

The Silkscreen Studio is for ages 5 and up, and will be a fun activity for creative kids with an interest in art and fashion.

What To Be Aware Of

The kit includes a canvas bag, a wooden silkscreen frame, a plastic fabric protector, a wooden squeegee, four fabric paints, eight design stencils, and two accent stencils. You'll need tape and a sink. And if you want to design anything else, you'll need to provide additional cotton or canvas products to decorate.

The look of the finished product is going to vary depending on a child's age and skill level. Younger kids may need adult assistance.

You can wash the fabric, but you'll need to wait two days after heat-setting. Turn the fabric inside out and wash it in cold water. Let it air dry.
