EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

There's a new way to read bedtime stories. The Moonlite Storytime Projector uses your smartphone's flashlight to project storybook images onto any surface while you read along in the free companion app. You'll need the Moonlite device, which can be purchased in the Moonlite Storytime Projector Starter Pack, and once you have that, you can purchase individual story reels for some of your favorite bedtime stories, including The Ugly Duckling, Karen Katz's Where is Baby's Belly Button?, and Sweet Dreams Lullaby by Betsy Snyder. Each is sold separately.

The circular reel slides into the device, and the device clips onto your phone to project the images. You read along through the free Moonlite companion app, manually turning the reel to move to the next image and swiping the screen to move to the next page. The app plays music and sound effects as you read.

Is It Fun?

This offers a new way to read bedtime stories with your child. The music and sound effects from the app adds a bit more magic to the storytelling, and we also think that kids will like seeing the images projected onto their bedroom walls, kind of like watching a movie. While this will be fun to use at home, it would also be an easy way to bring along favorite bedtime stories when traveling.

Who It’s For

The back of each story reel box says that this product is not a toy. It's really for use by adults. That said, adults can use this to read to their kids, whether those kids are babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and above. It would be a great way to bring favorite bedtime stories on the go.

What To Be Aware Of

The Moonlite Storytime Projector Starter Pack is sold separately.

The Moonlite device and app is compatible with most Android and iOS devices. There is a list of supported devices on the Moonlite website, however, we tested this out with an LG G6 phone, which was not on the supported devices list, and it worked just fine.

The Moonlite app is a free download in the App Store and Google Play.
