American Girl Tenney Grant Review (American Girl)

American Girl Tenney Grant
What It Is

American Girl is introducing more contemporary characters to its lineup of dolls starting with young musician Tenney Grant. She's a rising star in the Nashville music scene, and kids can bring the breakout songwriter to life through an 18-inch doll, guitar accessory that really plays music, and a series of books published by Scholastic.

The Tenney doll has long curly blonde hair, brown eyes, and a few freckles sprinkled across her nose and cheeks. She wears a graphic T-shirt with the words "Sing Your Story" on it, a denim vest, a faux leather skirt, underwear, and ankle boots. The doll's unique hand positioning helps Tenney hold her guitar and pick.

The authentic Taylor GS Mini is a teal guitar with white floral pattern and a matching patterned guitar strap. The guitar has six strings that can really be strummed, and three buttons that play three different acoustic songs when you press them. Along with the guitar, the accessory pack comes with Tenney's songwriting notebook and a white guitar pick with a floral design on it.

Kids can read more about Tenney in the included paperback book Tenney by Kellen Hertz. In the book, Tenney gets invited to perform for Music City VIPS, but she's feeling the pressure to write a good song that will impress them and her mother who thinks Tenney is too young to perform professionally.

Is It Fun?

American Girl's historical dolls give girls a broader understanding of other cultures and time periods, while its contemporary dolls aim to help girls better understand themselves through dolls with personalities and backgrounds that they can relate to. And that's exactly what Tenney Grant does. This is a doll that will be great for young girls who aspire to be singers and musicians just like Tenney. Through reading Tenney's story, they might see how they too can overcome roadblocks to achieve their dream.

Whether playing with the doll to recreate the story from the book, helping Tenney write and perform her music, or making up other stories for the character, this doll will inspire a lot of creative play.

Who It’s For

The Tenney Grant doll is for ages 8 and up. American Girl fans will like adding this new contemporary character to their collections, and it will be a fun doll for any young girl who also has dreams of becoming a singer/songwriter.
