OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

The Star Wars Black Series Rey (Jedi Training) Force FX Lightsaber from Hasbro is the newest edition to the Black Series line of lightsabers. This is the same lightsaber that was once used by Anikin, Luke, and Obi Wan at various points in the Star Wars storyline. The aspects that differentiates this Black Series lightsaber from lightsabers of the past, for example the Black Series Luke Skywalker Lightsaber that was released in 2015, are really subtle. Like the Black Series No. 5 Luke Skywalker lightsaber, this too has a fixed blade. It's also got the same blue LED effect when you turn it on, with a kind of combo metal/plastic grip at the base and movie sound effects built-in when swung. The lightsaber can be switched on and off, by pressing up on the button located on the hilt. There is also a clip so it can be attached to a belt clip if you have one. The packaging itself is blind so you can not see the lightsaber without opening the box, so this is a collectible meant to be opened and displayed as such. This lightsaber is also dated 2016 on the base.

What is really differentiating this model for collectors are two things. 1) The packaging: The packaging has been updated with Rey graphics, which depict Rey wielding the blue lightsaber as she appeared in the Force Awakens with her hair pulled back in multiple buns. 2) The stand/wall mount. This one allows you to position the lightsaber one of three ways for display. This stand can also be mounted to the wall as well for display.

Is It Fun?

For collectors, the previously mentioned features are what differentiates this lightsaber. As mentioned, the differences are subtle, however if you are looking to add the sevent lightsaber in the black series to your collection, that might not matter. We also think Rey fans and first-time Black Series Lightsaber buyers will be more enthusiastic about purchasing this lightsaber than someone who perhaps already owns and displays a similar model.

For fans looking for a model to perhaps roleplay or cosplay with however this is an exciting model. In comparison to the Black Series Deluxe Kylo Ren Force FX Lightsaber, this one is much more lightweight to carry and wield. The motion-activated sound effects are also fun for bringing the action of the film off screen and possibly recreating your own lightsaber battles.

Who It’s For

The Star Wars Black Series Rey (Jedi Training) Force FX Lightsaber from Hasbro is geared toward adult collectors and those planning to use the lightsaber for display as well as roleplay/cosplay.

What To Be Aware Of

Three AA batteries are required to power it up, they are not included.

It's important to note that because this lightsaber features LED lights, it's not intended for intense faux lightsaber battles since it can break the LED lights. This is a collector item geared for adults.
