Star Wars: The Last Jedi Force Link Kylo Ren Review (Hasbro)

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Force Link Kylo Ren
What It Is

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi heading to theaters in December, kids and collectors have been eagerly awaiting new toys based on the iconic franchise. And, the most iconic toys in any Star Wars line are 3 3/4-inch action figures and vehicles that capture the likeness of the film's characters, including Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren's packaging is a standard blister pack with a squared off bottom, which will stand easily for anyone who displays their figures packaged. The art itself is brand new for the line and features a white background with a prominent character image. What's really interesting is that the package doesn't say "The Last Jedi" anywhere on it and is refreshingly spoiler-free.

This  version of Kylo ren is maskless. And while he's wearing the same outfit as the Force Awakens, he deviates by having a pretty nasty scar as a result of his lightsaber battle with Rey in the Force Awakens. Ren comes with his lightsaber, and he's wearing a removable, plastic cloak.

An interesting addition to the line, and this figure, is that it works with "Force Link," a new sound chip embedded in each figure, vehicle and playset that interacts with a Force Link gauntlet. To make it work, when Kylo Ren is placed near the Force Link gauntlet, it will play several sound clips from the film - either phrases or sound effects.

Is It Fun?

Star Wars 3 3/4-inch action figures are always fun. The variety of new characters, along with their accessories will be a hit with both kids and collectors.

Who It’s For

With an age grading of 4 and up, it'll keep kids entertained, and 3 3/4-inch Star Wars collectors will have a variety of new figures to add to their collections. Beyond these figures, more will be released.

Out of the nine figures we received, three were women. This points to the way the entire Star Wars franchise is evolving, and it also shows that there's a move toward the release of more girl action figures, which is a great change.

What To Be Aware Of

The Force Link gauntlet is sold separately, so you'll have to buy it to unlock the full play of the action figure. Additionally, all Star Wars: The Last Jedi action figures are all sold separately, making it an expense for anyone who wants to buy the entire line.

Many collectors will be disappointed in the addition of Force Link, since they don't play with figures the way a kid does. Also, the trade-off is that the figures have a very basic five points of articulation, which is likely to keep costs down after Force Link's addition.
