Railway Pals Destination Discovery Review (Fisher-Price)

Railway Pals Destination Discovery
What It Is

Toddlers can now hop aboard for Thomas fun with the My First Thomas & Friends Railway Pals Destination Discovery train set. This is designed for the youngest train engineer, with a chunky train engine that is easy for small hands to grasp and more than 50 songs, sounds, and phrases that introduce kids to letters, colors, numbers, and directions.

There are three different track configurations, so once you have the track set up how you want it, roll the Percy train engine and cargo car around the track. You'll see popular Island of Sodor sites, such as Tidmouth Sheds, Knapford station, and McColl's Farm.

As kids push Percy along, Percy will roll over the nine track activation points. Each one will activate different sounds and phrases from the Percy engine. The five educational activation points will cause Percy to talk and sing about letters, music, colors, up and down, and over and under. The three destination activation points will cause Percy to talk, sing, and play sounds about the Island of Sodor, Tidmouth Sheds, and McColl's Farm. Kids can also hear more from Percy by pressing the train's front bumper.

Other features of the train set include swinging gates, a crossing gate, an opening door with Sir Topham Hatt behind it, a spinning turntable to change directions, a cargo dumping area, a spinning windmill, and a spinning drum that makes Tidmouth Sheds light up.

Is It Fun?

This is a nice first train set that introduces the Thomas & Friends characters to toddlers. Pushing the train around gets them busy working on their motor skills and using their imaginations. They'll think it's really cool when Percy starts talking after rolling over one of the activation points, and the things that Percy says and sings serve to enhance the imaginative play. Plus, the sounds and phrases are where the educational play comes in.

Who It’s For

The My First Thomas & Friends Railway Pals Destination Discovery is for ages 15. It makes a nice introduction to Thomas and toy trains for toddlers, but it's also a cute new iteration of the character that preschool Thomas fans may enjoy.

What To Be Aware Of

The train engine comes with two AAA batteries, for the in-store try-me features, so it's recommended that you replace them before you play for best results.

The shed comes with two AA batteries.

Adult assembly is required, and there are three different track layouts to choose from.

This works with other My First Thomas & Friends Railway Pals trains, which are sold separately.
