Real Workin' Buddies Mr. Dusty Review (Jakks Pacific)

Real Workin' Buddies Mr. Dusty
What It Is

Hey we all know kids don't love cleaning up after play. But what if cleaning up IS the play? Now there's a magic formula! Mr. Dusty is one of the Real Workin' Buddies vehicles from Jakks Pacific. Mr. Dusty is a garbage truck, and most parents know kids are transfixed by garbage trucks. Kids love big trucks, and they love seeing concrete, definable actions, such as trash being thrown into a truck. It's part of how they learn about their worlds. And, typically, garbage truck toys (and vacuum cleaners, by the way) have been very popular as toys.

Kids are going to get a kick out of Mr. Dusty as he helps them clean up. The truck takes 4 AA batteries, which are included for try-me purposes. Turn him on, and use the button to scoop up all the toys that are on the floor. Dusty will gobble up anything from LEGO bricks to Hot Wheels cars to any of the kinds of small toys that usually ended up scattered everywhere. Kids will get a kick out of making him work, his motorized mouth and listening to more than 50, silly phrases he says as he rolls along.

There really isn't all that much else to this toy, but there doesn't need to be. Kids will likely be engaged for hours with this toy. This is silly, interactive play that keeps them laughing and--just maybe--gets them in the habit of cleaning up after themselves all the time.

Don't hold your breath. They're kids.

Is It Fun?
Kids love garbage trucks! And this one has so much personality that he's bound to become a best buddy. Kids love watching the "magic" as Mr. Dusty scoops up toys. And then there's the fun of dumping them out again. It's silly, or course, but kids also can really relate to a toy version of what they see in the real world. Plus, we think kids will be intrigued with challenging Mr. Dusty to see what, and how much, he can pick up.
Who It’s For
Mr. Dusty is for kids ages 3 years and up. For kids who like the silliness and the activity, it's really fun to watch things get gobbled up.
What To Be Aware Of
It takes a little bit of practice to get Mr. Dusty to work perfectly. When you press the button on the handle on top, his mouth reaches out and scoops in the toy. However, you have to roll over the toys to have them picked up and dropped in the compartment at the back. You can hear it work as you do it, and it will probably take kids only a few tries to master it.

Some toys will work better than others, so you'll just have to experiment.

Be sure to empty the compartment regularly. (Mr. Dusty reminds you when he's pretty full.) The pick up feature works best when the collecting compartment is not overly full.
