Word Rush Review (Tactic Games)

Word Rush
What It Is

Players will be in a rush to come up with words in the fast-paced word game Word Rush. The object of this game is to quickly think of words that fit within a given category and start with a given letter.

The game consists of a game board with space for nine letter cards and a category card. One player turns over the timer, quickly deals letter cards onto the board, and flips over a category card. Then, that player must call out a word that fits the category and starts with one of the letters on the board. Categories include breakfast foods, girls' names, liquids, and bodies of water. Once that player calls out a word, he turns over the timer and places it on the letter card he used for his word.

The next player then has only the time remaining in the timer to come up with another word that fits the category. That player can use any of the letters except for the one covered by the timer. If that player comes up with a word, he turns over the timer again and places the timer on the letter card he used.

Play continues until the timer runs out. If it runs out on your turn, you have to move your playing piece one step forward on the scoring board. As the loser, you get to start the next round by filling the game board with new letter cards and a new category card.

Once a player reaches the "out" space on the scoring board, he has lost. You can either crown the player in the lead as the winner or have the remaining players continue playing until only one is left standing.

Is It Fun?

This is a fast-paced word game that definitely gets you thinking and challenges your vocabulary. There's a little bit of strategy involved, too, with the timer. The faster you think of your word, the less time the next player will have on his turn. But if you take too long, then you're giving the next player a lot of time to come up with his next word. The challenge is, how fast can you come up with a word? And if the round goes on for a long time, it's going to be harder and harder to come up with new words.

We like that you're working with different letters each round and that there is a nice variety of categories. This means that the game is going to be different each time you play.

For those who like word games, this will be a fun addition to your next game night.
