Tranquilo Mat Review (Tranquilo)

Tranquilo Mat
What It Is

No matter where baby is, you can help him feel like he's back in the womb with the Tranquilo Mat. It is a soft foam mat with a water-resistant liner and removable cotton cover that vibrates and plays soft sounds to mimic the sounds and motions babies experienced within the womb.

To turn it on, press and hold the power button for five seconds. This will start the vibrations. If you continue to hold the power button for five seconds after the vibrations begin, you'll enable a 60-minute timer so that the mat will vibrate for one hour before turning itself off.

There is also a mode button so that you can change between five different settings: low steady vibration, medium steady vibration, high steady vibration, and two heartbeat vibrations.

There are two sizes of Tranquilo Mat available, each sold separately. The small mat, which is what you'll see in this video review, is 11.25 inches by 9.75 inches and is best used tucked into a baby carrier, a stroller, a car seat (when worn over the baby after the baby has been properly buckled in), and other small portable devices.

The large mat measures 23.25 inches by 12.75 inches and is best suited for bassinets and cribs (placed on top of the mattress), pack and plays, activity mats, and playpens.

The mat can be rolled up, placed back inside its carry bag, and taken with you on the go.

Why Is It Useful?
New parents are always looking for ways to help soothe a crying baby, and the Tranquilo Mat is a good, if not pricey, option. If your arms are getting tired from constantly rocking your baby or you're traveling and don't have room for the baby swing or bouncer, that's where the Tranquilo Mat comes in. It's a very versatile product. Use it in the crib or bassinet to soothe a baby to sleep, place it on top of an activity mat for mid-day meltdowns, or tuck the mat into your baby-wearing sling.
Who It’s For
The Tranquilo Mat can be used with babies from birth to 6 months.
What To Be Aware Of

You'll need four AA batteries to power the mat, and batteries are not included.

TTPM wasn't able to test the product with an actual crying baby, but the science behind the Tranquilo Mat is sound. White noise and constant motion are soothing to babies because that's what they've been used to for nine months in utero. The product was actually developed by a maternity nurse trained in Dr. Harvey Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block methods.

It's not recommended that you leave a baby alone with the mat for an extended period of time, especially if you're using it in a crib or bassinet.

The removable cotton cover is washable. The waterproof liner can be wiped down with a cloth.

The packaging for the mat does not mention the five different vibration modes. If you want more information on that, you'll need to visit the Tranquilo website.

The Tranquilo Mat comes in two sizes. We're showing you the small mat in this video review, but there is also a large mat that is sold separately for $99.99.
