EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Kids can get creative at home or on the go with the new Magic Sketch, an LCD eWriter that features a Colorburst display to let kids create and trace in rainbow colors when they touch the writing stylus to the screen. This sort of looks like a tablet, and it has storage space for the writing stylus on the front. No paper, pens, or markers are required because the Magic Sketch is reusable. Whenever kids are ready to create something else, they just hit the Erase button at the top of the unit. But it's not just about art, though there are six drawing templates to inspire kids and three texture tools to give their artwork a cool look. Kids can also practice writing letters and punctuation marks with the six learning templates or play games with the six game templates. The screen is see-through, so kids can easily trace over the templates. It also comes with a protective case that doubles as a template holder.

What kids create cannot be saved to the Magic Sketch unit, so if kids want to save their artwork before hitting the Erase button, there is a free iOS Magic Sketch by Boogie Board app that will scan the drawings on the Magic Sketch using an iPhone's camera.

Is It Fun?
The Magic Sketch is going to be great to have when you're on the go, keeping kids occupied during a long car ride or when waiting at a restaurant. But unlike giving a child a tablet or smartphone to play some app games or browse the internet, the Magic Sketch engages kids in creative play. The games will be a fun way for kids and their parents and siblings to pass the time, and they get everybody playing together. Plus, parents will like not having to lug around lots of paper, pens, and markers on which their kids can create because the Magic Sketch has it all and can be reused for multiple works of art.
Who It’s For
The Magic Sketch is for ages 4 and up. This is going to be a fun way to keep creative kids busy during long car rides or long wait times at a restaurant or doctor's office. Kids will like how their writing and drawing appears on the screen as if by magic, and the fact that they can easily create over and over again.
What To Be Aware Of

The Magic Sketch runs on a replaceable 3V battery, and the battery is supposed to last for seven years, according to the manufacturer.

There is no built-in storage for the texture tools or templates.

The Magic Sketch is available online at www.mymagicsketch.com or at Michael's stores.

The Magic Sketch by Boogie Board app is only available for the iPhone.
