Scientific Explorer Geo Smash Mining Review (Alex Brands)

Scientific Explorer Geo Smash Mining
What It Is

The Scientific Explorer Geo Smash Mining set is a five-piece mining set that includes clay rocks with hidden gem stones, brush, chisel, magnifier, and hammer. Kids are encouraged to chisel away at the clay rock to uncover all sorts of sparkly, semi-precious gems and classic stoens. Obsidian, rose, quartz, topaz, and feldspar can be found in this rock. Using the hammer and chisel, you can uncover some parts of the gems. The brush allows you to gently brush away the clay rock without breaking the gem. An easy-to-use instruction booklet also includes little details about the gems.

Is It Fun?

This set is great for inquisitive exploring minds. It keeps kids focused and excited about the dig as they reveal more and more of the stones. For curious minds, kids will get to discover the rocks and minerals and learn about them at the same time be referring to the instruction booklet. The set and its geological play patterns will also encourage exploration and generate interest in science among children.

Who It’s For
The Scientific Explorer Geo Smash Mining set by Alex Brands is for ages 6 and up. Kids will enjoy chiseling out rocks from the clay and learning about them as part of learning about their world.

There's real science here and learning that's experiential, so it's great to keep kids busy, learning and getting introduced to earth science.

What To Be Aware Of

This is a one-time activity, so there really isn't much repeat play in this toy. However, it may spark interest in gems and minerals and is very kid-appropriate.

The instructions are intended as an introduction to these minerals. Kids who are interested in this topic may want to go to the library or do more learning online about how these minerals appear in the real world.

Due to the chisel-out play pattern of this set, the clay may create some messes during and after play. For that, we recommend keeping paper towels nearby to ensure a quick and easy cleanup.

You may also want to rinse off the stones after chiseling them out to see them clearly.
