Adult assembly is required, and it took us 45 minutes to do. This was not a very easy playset to assemble due to the fact that none of the pieces had pre-drilled holes. So, instead of being able to use a screwdriver as the instructions indicated, we had to use an electric drill. We also found that reversing some of the steps (in the case of steps 9, 10, and 11) made it much easier to assemble those parts. If you're giving this as a birthday or Christmas present, you'll probably want to assemble it before you give it just so the child can play with it right away instead of waiting for you to put it together.
