What It Is
The Nerf Mega Mastodon is the biggest, baddest Nerf blaster we've seen this year. This ultimate battery-operated blaster fires 24 whistling mega darts in rapid succession. First assemble the Mastodon, then power it up with six D-cell batteries, load the 24 dart chamber, and you're ready to go. To fire, pull back on the acceleration button and you'll hear the motor rev up. You'll know pretty much by the sound when it's running at peak speed. Then, pull the trigger and let loose with a nonstop blast of darts.
Is It Fun?
The box says that the darts will go about 100 feet. While we weren't quite able to match that, it doesn't really matter because the hail of darts you'll unleash will be enough to dominate any Nerf battle. This is the most powerful portable blaster we've seen. What's great about this is the power you have and the dramatic action.
Who It’s For
The Nerf Mega Mastadon is a surefire hit among kids, ages 8 and up. It may be a bit heavy at some points, but the firepower more than makes up for its weight. As they launch darts at their rivals or unsuspecting Nerf attack victims, they'll be laughing all the way home at everyone else's expense. After all, you'll want as much firepower as you can get, especially if the rest of your foes have
Mastodons at their disposal.
What To Be Aware Of
Assembly was easy and took us about 10 minutes but you'll want to pay close attention to the pictures and there may be a little trial and error involved, but it does come together easily. The Mastodon's downside is that this is heavy. It weighs in about 8.5 pounds with the batteries, which makes it comparatively difficult to run around with, especially for younger kids. That's always the issue with Nerf battles isn't it? Power versus mobility. But this Nerf Mega Mastodon is a big wow! It comes with a similarly large price tag but if winning Nerf battles is important to you, you'll make the investment. The Nerf Mega Mastodon runs on six D batteries, which are not included.
