Zoo Jamz Piano Review (VTech)

Zoo Jamz Piano
What It Is

Preschoolers can jam out with the Zoo Jamz Piano. This zebra-shaped toy piano has eight colorful light-up piano keys for kids to press, plus a working microphone, a scratch disc, a whammy bar tail, and four instrument modes. Slide the bird switch to piano, violin, xylophone, or saxophone to choose that instrument to play. Then, press one of the 10 Let's Sing buttons to hear a sing-along song. The first time the songs plays, the zebra sings. But then the song plays again so kids can sing along solo through the microphone.

Press one of the eight Learn to Play buttons to play a melody. After the song plays once, kids follow along with the light-up piano buttons to play the song on their own.

And pressing the Animal Band button (the orange star button with the zebra on it) will play a song sung by the zebra and his animal friends. After they sing it once, kids can sing along to an instrumental version.

Whenever songs are playing, kids can press the piano keys to play along or add fun sound effects by turning the scratch disc and pulling the zebra's tail. They can also change the tempo of the music by sliding the green tempo switch up and down. There are two other switches next to the tempo switch. The purple one adjusts the volume, and the yellow one turns on and off the microphone.

Kids can also press the piano buttons to play their own music.

The carry handle on top makes this easy for preschoolers to carry and take with them for music fun on the go.

Is It Fun?

Preschoolers will really like playing along with the animal band or composing their own music with this cute toy. The variety of songs and instruments gives kids different ways to play each time. Following the light-up buttons in the Learn to Play mode lets kids feel like they really are playing the song on their own, and the working microphone will allow aspiring pop stars to belt out their favorite tunes. Plus, pressing all of those buttons is good for helping little kids with fine motor skills.

Who It’s For
The Zoo Jamz Piano is for ages 1.5–4. Its animal theme will appeal to preschoolers who like animals, while the music element of it will be fun for little kids who like to sing and dance. It's a fun way to introduce kids to music and instruments, while engaging them in creative play.
What To Be Aware Of
The Zoo Jamz Piano comes with two AA batteries, but those are for the in-store try-me features, so you'll probably want to replace them before you play for best results.
