Can you tell “whodunnit”? With the My First Lab Whodunnit? Detective Spy Scope, kids will be well on their way to solving mysteries just like a real forensic scientist. Using the tools in the kit, kids work through different experiments to solve fake crimes. Experiments involve fingerprinting, blood analysis, forgery, liquid detection, and more.
The kit includes a microscope with real optical glass lenses. It has a 10X magnification eyepiece and 4X, 10X, and 40X objectives. It also has dual LED and blacklight illumination, along with dual focusing knobs. There are also more than 70 accessories for completing the experiments: an evidence bag; a confidential envelope; pH paper; evidence cards; writing card; blood spatter card; ink pad; magnifier; blower; samples of cotton, nylon, wool, silk, and linen; metal forceps; four poly gloves; five blank microscope slides; cover slips; slide labels; four prepared slides; red “stain”; blue “stain”; petri dish; plastic test tube; mini flashlight with battery; a doctor's mask; police tape; a microscope user's manual; and more. Some of the experiments do require items that you will have to provide.
Three AA batteries are required but not included.
It's recommended that adults read through the experiment book before a child attempts any of the activities. Some of the activities require adult participation because of the use of certain tools, such as a lighter, while other activities might not be deemed appropriate by parents, such as blood spatter analysis at a domestic dispute scene.
